English Indie Rock band, alt-J, performed at the U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville, N.C. on Saturday, Nov. 4th for 7,000 fans. Bishop Briggs (most famous for her song “River”) opened for them and energized the crowd with every song.

alt-J is most known for their “light shows,” following the beat of every song and adding artsy effects, appealing to the eyes. The only designs/accessories onstage were the lights. The three members, Gus Unger-Hamilton (keyboard/vocals), Thom Sonny Green (drummer), and Joe Newman (guitarist/main vocals), let the lights and music be the main attraction. Unlike normal entertainers, they didn’t move around and dance. Briggs even commented how thankful she was to be opening for the England-based band because that meant “the awesome lighting people” were doing the lighting for her performance as well.

Joe Newman’s singing was no different live, resembling his authentically raw and vulnerable recorded voice. alt-J performed songs from their three albums: An Awesome Wave, This Is All Yours, and their newest, RelaxerThe band is most famous for their songs “Breezeblocks” and “Left Hand Free.” Fans left the night joyful, already wanting to see the unique band again.
