College football is finally here. Fans have been waiting for nearly seven months for college athletics’ largest spectacle. September’s schedule alone could be enough to satisfy even the hungriest fan’s appetite. With matchups of traditional powers like SEC powerhouse, Alabama, pitted against ACC Championship contender, Florida State, it sure has been an exciting start.

This year’s top ranking teams are for the most part traditional or recent winners: University of Southern California, Miami, Clemson, Oklahoma, LSU, Stanford, and Alabama. Look for teams like Louisville and Ohio State to be successful after their promising regular seasons ended rather unceremoniously last year. Ohio State arguably took 2017’s biggest loss with a 31-0 stifling from the Clemson Tigers.

Mark Walton, the starting running back for the Miami Hurricanes is someone expected to be a breakout star this year. Even with such high expectations, he is still not considered a Heisman Trophy favorite. Only the best-of-the-best athletes such as Lamar Jackson, Sam Darnold, and Baker Mayfield have a spot on that shortlist.

In the words of Travelers Rest High School’s football coach Robbie Cole, “I love watching college football. I could watch Fresno State vs. San Diego State and it’s just as exciting to me as watching the Clemson/Alabama game.” So whether you are a relaxed fan like Coach Cole or more of a fanatic, this season will be one to remember.
