“4 Your Eyez Only” might get your eyez watering
“We ain’t picture perfect but we still worth the picture.” Jermaine Cole, the J. Cole, is back with his first album since 2014 Forest Hills Drive- which was released in 2014. Who is J. Cole? He’s of the best rappers to ever be in the game. J. Cole was the first rapper in 25 years to go double platinum with no features.
Cole’s last album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, sold 371,000 copies in its first week and debuted as #1 in Billboard’s top 200 and went on to place 5 of its singles on the Billboard’s Hot Rap songs chart.
4 Your Eyez Only, J. Coles new album came out on Friday, December 9. Regarding the album, J.Cole said, “This will be some of the realest s*** I’ve ever said.” While listening to the new album, some people thought it was kind of lame, lacking heavy bass and his usual, graphic lyrics. But as people listened and really let the lyrics really sink, they realized this album wasn’t meant for the hype. Instead, it targets American issues such as the black rights matter movement and drugs.
In his song “Neighbors,” he talks about how he now lives in a rich, white neighborhood and the neighbors think he’s selling drugs to make money just because he’s black. Cole raps how he thought after coming to a nicer neighborhood, people would leave him alone. It’s one of the more faster-paced and bass heavy songs on the album.
J. Cole walks through life, rapping about his childhood to impending death. Cole fights with the demons inside him and communicates this through his music.
