A bright and harmonized Christmas
On Friday, October 21st, Pentatonix released their second Christmas album A Pentatonix Christmas. This album is anything from the traditional Christmas collection. Pentatonix brings to the table a range of classics and originals with unique twists. The holiday hits begin with upbeat spirited songs like “White Christmas” and “Up On The Housetop.” Then the album drastically transitions to a more raw and vulnerable side of each singer. For example, “Coventry Carol” and “Coldest Winter” create a darker side with a serious tone for the second half of the album.
Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying, Avi Kaplan, Kirstin Maldonado, and Kevin Olusola complete sound of Pentatonix. The original and unique a cappella group made their own breakthrough in 2011 on season 3 of Sing-off, a live a cappella singing competition. Pentatonix took home $200,000 and recording contract with Sony Music. Since then, the quintet has received two Grammys, and released a total of eight albums ranging from mashup covers, originals, and classic Christmas melodies.
Pentatonix is also known for their internet popularity. The group is the 13th most subscribed music video channel and 44th most subscribed channel overall. The latest music video hit was their arrangement of “Hallelujah,” with over 71 million views the song is truly a marvel.
5 voices, 1 sound. This makes up the perfect harmony of the a cappella group Pentatonix. There are no words to describe this five-person quintet other than musically magnificent. These five singers were made to sing with each other. Each artist has a strength on their own but when compiled together, their sound is invincible.
What will we see next from the a cappella group from Arlington, Texas? Who knows, but we do know the future for Pentatonix is bright and harmonized.
