Bangin’ biscuits
Biscuits bigger than your head–literally.
The new local brunch stop, Biscuit Head, located in downtown Greenville, is known for their famous “cathead” biscuits. These southern-stapled, hand-rolled biscuits, are given their name because of their size, which is comparable to a cat’s head. Also, because of the owners’ commitment to local businesses, it allows the ingredients to be fresh and healthy.
Ranging from traditional biscuits and gravy to gourmet catfish biscuits, Biscuit Head has a wide variety. There are options for those who want something a little sweeter, such as their biscuit donuts, and those who want something lighter can try their house-made granola.
Biscuit Head adds delicious spins to simple, southern food. For example, instead of having regular grits, they have pimento cheese grits. This keeps the grits tasty, southern, and home-style, while adding a unique flavor. Biscuit Head not only brings biscuits, but also their breakfast condiments, to a whole new level. Located in the back of the restaurant is a “jam bar” that is filled with several unique flavors of jams, syrups, and honey that are made from scratch. These features add a unique touch to this delicious experience.
The atmosphere of Biscuit Head is like no other, as a Brooklyn hipster feel merges with southern hospitality. Graffiti-inspired artwork fills the restaurant through the chalk-painted walls, painted floors, and re-purposed furniture. It all comes together and creates a vibrant place for a wide range of people.
The restaurant even offers a free newsletter called Coffee News. This newsletter, filled with information about upcoming events, trivia, and even horoscopes, is great to read over Sunday brunch, or while enjoying a simple cup of coffee.
“Since opening up in July 2016, service has been exceptional with lines wrapping around the building and serving up to 700 [people] on an average weekend,” said general manager, Stevie Tucker. Biscuit Head is open Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 2 .p.m., and Saturday and Sundays, open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is located at 823 S Church St., Greenville, SC 29601.
