Edge of 17 movie

Either you will eventually be there, you’re currently there, or you have been there-it is seventeen. There are no words that can be strung together to describe this awkward middle stage of life, but the movie Edge of 17 does a pretty good job. Directed by Kelly Fermon Craig, the unpredictable plot line of Edge of 17,  truly captures the crazy roller coaster of emotions that seventeen year-olds go through. During its opening weekend, the movie box office brought in $4,754,215.

Nadine, the movie’s protagonist, played by Hailee Steinfeld, perfectly portrays the typical awkward seventeen year-old girl.  Steinfeld was a perfect fit for the character of Nadine as she brings the contradictions a girl on the edge of being a woman come to life. After her father’s death, Nadine feels as if she has no one to turn to. Her non-affectionate mom becomes a self-centered alcoholic, and now that she her only friend, Krista, is dating her popular brother, she finds herself feeling more alone than ever. However, it is through her history teacher Mr. Bruner, and secret admirer Erwin, that she is able to get past the struggles of being seventeen.

The movie satirically depicts the life of an average seventeen year-old, one that thinks the world is out to get them and cannot wait to grow up. The stereotypical moments that happen at the age of seventeen are brought to life in this movie. From the cringe-worthy first conversations with your crush, to having the desire to rebel, to accidentally sending your crush the secret message you wrote proclaiming your feelings, to the typical friend-zone awkwardness and  insane high school love triangles, this movie is relatable to everyone.

Edge of 17 is rated R for sexual content, some drinking, language and mild violence-all involving teens.
