Christmas Treats
This month has been full of parties for everyone – family parties, friend parties, work parties, school parties, etc. Christmas parties are guaranteed to have at least two things, food and some sort of gift exchange game. We all claim that we will only have one cookie, brownie, or creative peppermint, red and green dessert concoction at said party, but somehow we lose ourselves among the array of treats.
Most of our kitchens are full with the smell of icing, butter, chocolate, or maybe all three this time of year. Not only is this season prime time for baking companies, but when those holiday dinners roll around, we stuff our stomachs with different kinds of potatoes, meats, cheese-y side dishes, and of course, dinner rolls. The Christmas season’s food is a favorite for many, but maybe it’s what all of that food means that is truly special. We spend hours baking with our families, and then sit around a table talking and laughing with our closest friends and family. The food brings us together. Grandma’s famous pie, or your Aunt’s melt in your mouth cookies, bring a family close. All of these treats mean more than their calorie count; they remind us of our most favorite memories. So even if your new year’s resolution is to cleanse yourself from this past month of sugar and carbs, remember what all of that food means – great times and memories with family and friends.
This month I pick family and friends as one of my favorite things – especially when they involve dessert.
