On Saturday, October 21st, 2023, the Golden Regiment Marching Band performed their show Gold Rush at the SCBDA Upper State Championship at Belton-Honea Path High School, taking home a 4th place finish. So far the band has placed 1st at the Boiling Springs Festival of Bands, 1st at the James F Byrnes Tournament of Bands, 2nd at the Wren Category 5 Invitational, and for the first time in Golden Regiment history, the band went on to become finalists at the Bands of America Carolina Regional Championship, placing 9th overall, a well-earned achievement for a group that has put in so much work in order to get to where they are now. Band director Harrison Thornton said, “I would attribute our success to the culture of excellence that exists within the band.” Baritone player Park Robertson expressed his feelings about the camaraderie within the band by saying that, “We have truly grown not just as performers but as family too. Everyday We get closer to each other. We are truly lucky that we have this amazing opportunity to do this with amazing people and meet new people along the way.” To round out the season, the Golden Regiment is now looking to improve on their State Championship placement from last year.
