Lady Devildogs swing to victory

Girls golf at State in Myrtle Beach

The Lady Devildog golf team has accomplished much this season.  Coach Elizabeth Nix led the ladies to place first in region for a third year in a row, third in upper state, and fourth in state. Number-one player and senior Beth Ann Townsend received the honors of Region Player of the Year and All-State individually, qualifying for the North-South all-star tournament. She helped the North dominate. Sophomore Ashley Looper held a strong number two position throughout the season and was helped by senior Alivia Waynick who played one of her best rounds at the state tournament. Junior Hailey Heath and sophomore Mackenzie Bishop, playing fifth and sixth position, overcame the pressure of the state tournament. Mia Koppari, junior, and Grace White, sophomore, both improved drastically throughout the season by shaving off strokes.

Townsend reflects on her time on the team. She says, “I am so proud of my fellow Lady Devildogs. We tackled some tough competition down at the Hackler Course, but all of our practice paid off. I can pass the torch to next year’s team with confidence.” Looper comments on how hard the team will work in the off season to advance even more next season. In these last four years, the worst the team has done was place sixth in state. Coach Nix says, “Beth Ann, Ashley, and Alivia picked up where we left off last season, but worked even harder. The players next year will have to establish that same work ethic in order to compete, but we can do it.” After taking home a state runner-up trophy last year and more tournament honors this year, the Lady Devildog golf team has accomplished much this season and looks to continue greatness into the next.
