The National Honor Society put on their annual Fall Festival on Thursday, October 27 from 5-8 p.m. for kids 6th grade and under.

The Fall Festival has been around since the old Travelers Rest High School was running, where Chico Bolin Park is now located.  Members of the NHS dress up in friendly Halloween costumes and run booths for the kids, with the help of Beta Club members.  The booths are funded by businesses around Travelers Rest that the seniors of NHS asked to sponsor them, and are often themed around the businesses themselves.  The booths are then built by the NHS with the money they received from the sponsors.

This year, there were around 20 booths at the festival, with th  booths ranging from simple, like knocking over bricks, to complex games, like throwing sandwich components on a bun to get candy.  Of course every kid gets candy for playing a game, whether they actually win or not, thus why NHS needs to put on the Candy Drive a week beforehand to raise enough candy every year.  The cafeteria was filled with parents and kids who showed up and almost all of the candy was given away, with the extra being given to those who helped with the Fall Festival.  “We do the Fall Festival so we can give back to the community.  The TRHS students raised over 1,000lbs of candy so that we can provide a safe fun environment for the children of the TR area to have fun for Halloween,” said Mrs. Mason, an English teacher that is one of few in charge of the NHS.  At the end of the night, everyone was tired from their hard work but happy to help so many families make great memories.
