On Thursday, September 14th, 2023, Travelers Rest High School hosted the Superintendent’s Breakfast, which saw Greenville County School District Superintendent Dr Burke Royster, as well as a number of principals and community partners from the county, gather to discuss the current state of the school district. Along with the students from various clubs and organizations who were present to greet the guests, members of the band, under the direction of Harrison Thornton, performed a selection of musical pieces at the beginning and end of the event.
To kick everything off, principals in attendance were each given time to speak about their schools goals and recent academic achievements. This was followed up by a presentation given by Dr Royster, which covered a variety of topics including academic statistics and financial matters pertaining to the district, as well as details on new schools and facilities that are in the works, which Dr Royster says will help to “keep pace with the incredible growth in Greenville County, a lot of which is in the Travelers Rest area”.
When asked about what accomplishment he is most proud of, Dr Royster said, “we are most proud of the fact that 75% of our students have graduated with college credit or an industry certification.” He also explained that he would like to see that number rise to 100% in the coming years as the district is continuously improving. “Whatever area it might be, academics or extracurricular opportunities, we want to always be about improving.”
Overall, the event was a success and it was undoubtedly a true honor for the students and staff members who were involved to be given the opportunity to host such an important and respected individual at Travelers Rest High School.
