Pura Vida (“pure life”) is the phrase that many Costa Ricans (Ticos) say, used as a regular greeting or a display of their appreciation and enjoyment of life. In Costa Rica, the phrase is much more than just a simple greeting; it is a way of life, showing the relaxed and free attitude of the locals. This phrase along with its meaning is a perfect way to sum up the Costa Rican experience. The country is known for its vast amount of tourism, and for anyone visiting it is a once in a lifetime experience. It is exciting to announce that several students from Travelers Rest High School have been given the opportunity to travel to this unique country through EF Tours.
The students attending this trip will take part in many of the fun activities available in Costa Rica. From hiking to waterfalls and volcanoes, to snorkeling and rafting in the clear water, there will never be a dull moment. The exact dates have not yet been determined but it is expected to take place in the Spring of this year. While it is not school sponsored, several teachers will attend, including Mrs. Moses and Mr. Giles who are both well experienced travelers. Along with having a thrilling time, students will be given the opportunity to receive college credit for partaking in the trip. Therefore, it will not only be a fun-filled vacation, but an educational experience.
The only downside to this opportunity is the travel cost that students are expected to provide around 3,000 dollars. The price covers not only transportation costs but food and other necessities along the way. While it is a costly trip, there will be several fundraising opportunities available to the students. One of these fundraisers is a chili night where students will provide their family’s best pot of Chili to compete against others. Tickets will be sold by the attending students, allowing anyone to participate in the fun event. The high cost is not designed to prevent students from going on the trip. This is an amazing opportunity and it is guaranteed that the students will never forget their experience in Costa Rica.
