Canned foods

The week of Nov. 13, TRHS Student Council led the school in a can food drive. Every year, the can food drive prompts giving attitudes and excitement within the student body. Many students and teachers donate as much as they can for an amazing cause.

Incentives were given to students and each class to encourage participation. The class that raised the most cans was given the opportunity to leave for lunch three minutes sooner than other classes. Individual students who brought in at least five cans had the option to get free sweet tea at lunch. Also, to wear a hat all week you had to bring in 40 cans. Senior and student body president Judith Kate Ward said, “The week was amazing. Everything went as planned and we got a lot of things done.”

Once the week concluded, the cans went to the North Greenville Food Ministries to help feed families in need. Student Council Advisor and librarian Mrs. McCarrell said, “It’s wonderful to see the items donated stay in our local community and help those in need in the Traveler’s Rest area.”

Overall, 4,309 cans were raised. The can food drive was yet another successful event that Travelers Rest High School participated in to aid the community.
