For the past three years, TRHS athletic advisers have held student sporting tournaments during PowerHour. From dodgeball and beach volleyball to indoor soccer and three-on-three basketball, the gym is always poppin’, to say the least.

Coach Josh Mills said, “The cool thing is watching the different types of people come out and play.” It truly is an interesting display of TR’s contrasting personalities.

Senior Josh Wells also agreed that dodgeball is the most popular intramural sport. “The coolest thing about my four years of playing intramural sports is the atmosphere of dodgeball,” he said. “Not to mention talking smack and winning every year.” Ultimately, it will be interesting to see if any other sport rises above dodgeball.

Mills also stated, “Out of all the games, dodgeball is by far the best. It draws more people to watch and creates more teams. And somebody always gets pegged in the head and everyone watching goes ‘ohhhh.’”

Interestingly enough, it seems that the same groups of people play the same sports. Wells added, “Maybe most people just [don’t] want to play. Some might not play sports, and they might be nervous.” Though it is a stress-free atmosphere, it can be just as fun to watch.

The most outstanding aspect of intramural sports is how it displays the fellowship of TRHS. Freshman Eli Verdin said, “Just from watching people play, I can see how it teaches teamwork and brings people together.”
