On Friday, August 19th the Devildogs traveled across town to take on the Riverside Warriors for their first non-region game of the season. Like always, the devildog fanbase did not disappoint. From all the parents wearing blue and gold, to the cheerleaders, to the student section wearing white for “white out” and chanting for the team, the energy brought by the fanbase was astonishing.
Kickoff started at 7:30, within the first few minutes of the game, the Warriors scored. This did not put TR down. Junior Gavin Baker scores the first touchdown of the night for the devil dogs. By the end of the first quarter, TR is down 20-7. The Devil Dogs keep pushing. By the half-time buzzer, TR is down 40-13. The 3rd quarter starts and the Devil Dogs are struggling to score. In the 3rd quarter, Riverside scored another 21 points. The last quarter rolls around, some still with hope and others doubtful. Although the dogs could not steal the lead, the boys managed to not let the Warriors score while also scoring 1 touchdown. The final score came down to 61-20 Warriors. Although this was a tough loss, it was also the first game of the season against a non-region, much larger school.
On Friday, August 26th the (0-1) Devil Dogs will host (0-1) Wade Hampton Generals at Chico Bolin Stadium. After the Generals took a tough loss 42-19 to non-region team Seneca, this puts the Devil Dogs and Generals at a 0-1 streak. Who will win? GO DEVIL DOGS!
