The TRHS Devildog Cheerleading team is definitely something to take notice of this year. A lot of talent was added with new members as six freshman and five middle schoolers joined the team. One freshman, Olivia Huskey, has been on the team for two years and looks to be a vital asset, especially during competitions. “It’s easy to get nervous before actually going out there, but once I get on the mat, I just focus on the routine,” she said. Huskey helped the team win the Woodmont Cheer Classic on October 1 and acquire second place in the BHP Cheer competition on October 10.

Along with the accomplishments they have already achieved this year, the Devildogs have come far from their previous season. Going from four tumblers to now fourteen, they look to be a strong contender in the state tournament. Two seniors have recently returned to the team, Lexi Carver and Lexi Humphreys, and quickly learned the routines and practiced to get ready for upcoming competitions. On October 15, the Lady Devildogs participated in the Ram cheerleading classic, where they took second place.

With all of these competitions comes a lot of hard work; the cheer team has practiced and practiced to impress the spectators and express themselves as Devildogs. Senior Megan Kobler said, “Even though practice can be hard, it gets us ready for competitions so we can get that W [win].”

As the Devildog athletics’ voice, the cheer team play an important role in building and maintaining school spirit.
