Linebacker Josh Gibson flexing on the opposition

August 24, 2018 will reign in the heart of Travelers Rest forever. It marks the first time in 51 years that the Devildog football team scored 63 points or more in a game. This dominant victory of 63-0 against Carolina High sparked a raging fire in the student body and overall community at Travelers Rest. Games are more anticipated, students are more supportive of our team, and there isn’t a seat open on the winning side. Needless to say, morale is high in Devildog territory.

Senior and sports enthusiast, Jacob Ward, complies, “Everything seems much more hype this year and the atmosphere is crazy. The team has started off strong, and with that you can feel the intensity in the student section.” Along with Ward, many people feel this intensity as the bleachers shake from the roar of our student section.

A crucial factor to the incredible change of offensive performance is Junior and starting Quarterback, Wilson Hendricks. Hendricks stated, “This years team is very special because everyone is very close, we are all practically brothers. At the start of Fall practice we all had the mentality that we never wanted to go 1-9 ever again and that we wanted to be the team that changed the culture of TR football. But our success so far has really come from our discipline and doing the little things right and it shows on Friday nights.”

It is evident that this group of young men have stirred up something special within their team and their supporters. With confidence to battle Ware Shoals next on Friday, August 31, Travelers Rest is sure to bring all they’ve got with that tenacious Devildog spirit.
